Color Business Cards - Why Do I Need Them?

by: Jeff messenger
Is color an essential part of a business card? Many marketing companies and business owners are always asking this important question. I guess you could say that it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you just want to give out information then I guess that a simple black and white card would be sufficient. However if you are trying to leave a lasting impression then color is the way to go.

Many of the larger companies realize the importance of a good looking business card. And you will find that most of the major players in the market place use full color cards to get their message across. Many of them use the same color scheme as their logo and try to capitalize on color recognition as well. McDonalds uses this in their advertising in the golden arches. Many of their cards use color recognition like the golden logo with additional text in red. Since these are two of their major colors it helps in their marketing strategy.

So if you have certain colors that are associated with your company then use those colors on your business cards. Color recognition is a trigger that can help people when it comes to relating to your company. It will help your cards stand out in the market place among the competitions business cards and could mean the difference in your customer keeping or rejecting your business card. Font color should accent the background colors to make the card easy to read. Don’t use colors that blend in, and try to not use a lot of different font colors.

Remember, try not to crowd a lot of text on one line. This tends to make the business card look too busy and takes away from the message you are trying to project. Too much text and the right color of text could still be a poor combination. Have others take a look at your design, to get a second opinion, before printing. It would be disappointing to find out that your business card is difficult to read after it is printed.
